Paul Cleave joins "Fatal Attraction?" panel

Last month I shared some information about the crime fiction panel I am chairing at the upcoming The Press Christchurch Writers Festival this weekend.

The event, entitled "Fatal Attraction" features a panel of authors discussing the distinctions made between crime and thriller writing and so-called 'literary fiction', as well as "the attractions of evil and the perils of genre writing". In a late but very welcome addition to an already cracking line-up, 2012 Ngaio Marsh Award winner Paul Cleave (pictured above), who is of course an internationally bestselling author who sets his thrillers in his hometown of Christchurch, will be joining the panel. It's fantastic that Cleave has been able to make it back from his European commitments in time to join the festival line-up, particularly as he is inarguably one of the biggest Christchurch (and New Zealand) writers on the global stage in the past few years.

So the panel will now consist of award-winning Australian crime writer Michael Robotham, award-winning New Zealand literary writer Julian Novitz (whose latest work revolves around a crime), up and coming Kiwi crime writer Ben Sanders, and Cleave. It should be a terrific session, as part of a great festival.

It's fantastic to see The Press Christchurch Writers Festival return, after a four year absence (the 2010 festival was cancelled following the Christchurch earthquakes, as were any plans for a mini-festival in 2011, following further devastating 'quakes). You can read more about "Fatal Attraction?" here and more about the entire festival at its website here.

I hope to see some of you in the audience on Saturday!

  1. I won't be able to make it -- too far to fly and too short notice for me. A little sad as I get a 'dream team' impression of the panel lineup!
