Well, it seems that the crossed fingers worked. Not only are Paul Cleave's BLOOD MEN and Paddy Richardson's HUNTING BLIND both still in the Top 5 NZ Adult Fiction Bestseller list this week, but HUNTING BLIND has jumped from #5 last week to hit the top spot!
This is fantastic news for New Zealand crime and thriller fiction writing - especially as it perhaps illustrates a growing public recognition for locally-written tales. Hopefully it's a trend that will continue, and we might see some more weeks with a NZ crime novel in the #1 spot in 2010.
Incidentally, crime sits on top of both the international and local fiction bestseller charts in New Zealand this week; with Stieg Larsson's THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO slotting in at number one on the international list (the Millenium trilogy taking out the top 3 spots in fact). So Kiwis are definitely mad for murder, mystery, and mayhem right now - which is fantastic to see.
You can see the Nielsen Bookscan results (for the week ending 27 February) here.
Craig - that really is good news. It is always good when people support local writers, and of course, it's always good news when crime and mystery fiction do especially well : ).
