Is Crime Watch one of New Zealand's best blogs?

Each year in New Zealand, the NetGuide Web Awards celebrate excellence and innovation on the Web by highlighting the best New Zealand-based websites in a variety of categories, including "Best Blog Site".

In the months since I established Crime Watch in August last year, I hope I have provided some online "excellence and innovation" for readers around the world, in terms of both the information and commentary I have provided on crime fiction - particularly when it comes to sharing more information about New Zealand crime fiction that perhaps hasn't been highlighted much, if at all, elsewhere.

Hopefully I have been continuously improving the site, adding new features and series (e.g. the 9mm interviews which over the past few months have included more than 20 fantastic authors, from Lee Child to Stuart MacBride, and many in between), redesigning it for easier readibility and navigation, and building something of a databank of information about New Zealand crime fiction (e.g. the growing list of Kiwi crime authors both contemporary and historic, the biographical/encyclopaedic 'Have You Read?' posts, links to reviews and articles here and elsewhere).

As such, if any of you feel that Crime Watch deserves to be in the discussion of best New Zealand-based blog sites, I would greatly appreciate it if you would consider voting for my blog in the 2010 NetGuide Awards. You can vote here.

Please note the drop-down menu beside "Select" is a list of previous winners, not nominated blogs or shortlisted contenders. To vote for Crime Watch, you need to type kiwicrime.blogspot.com into the box marked 'Other' and click on VOTE.

I appreciate your consideration.

  1. Well it's the only New Zealand based blog I read so it must be good

  2. Just voted. I only read two blogs regularly, and this one is the only NZ one. Keep up the good work!

  5. Thanks guys. I appreciate the support. I'm not entirely sure how the voting works, or how many people normally vote (or even if people vote multiple times like in US All Star Games and American Idol etc), but regardless of whether Crime Watch gets mentioned or not, it's cool to know the blog is enjoyed by a few people around the world.

  6. Craig,

Well, I tried, but Chicago Rules voting is not allowed here.

    From the rules statement:

"Only one vote per person per category will be accepted. Multiple votes (block voting) will be discounted."

  7. Good to know. I prefer it when such online voting works that way. It's a shame when it doesn't, and you get large scale vote-stuffing, like with the US baseball All-Star game etc.

  8. I've voted for this site as well. As a writer of crime in NZ - mainly for young adults, I find this site extremely interesting and useful. It has introduced me to new-to-me writers as well as helping me keep up with crime matters -and all from the NZ perspective. Great stuff.
