Video review: SWIMMING IN THE DARK

One my my favourite bookstores in New Zealand in The Women's Bookshop on Ponsonby Road, Auckland, where Carole Beu and her team do a fantastic job promoting terrific writing, of all kinds, by women. I've attended some great events there, including visits by Val McDermid and Tess Gerritsen.

Carole has just released a video review of Paddy Richardson's latest book, SWIMMING IN THE DARK (see above), calling it a "complex novel with very strong women characters... set in Alexandria, a small South Island town, and she captures it beautifully". Richardson is a former Ngaio Marsh Award finalist, and her latest thriller, CROSS FINGERS, is also in the running for this year's award (judging currently underway).

I agree with Carole that Paddy is great at getting in the tension and pace of a crime novel, while delving deeper into character and place. You can read Paddy's 9mm interview with Crime Watch here.

Have you read any of Paddy Richardson's novels? What do you enjoy most about them?
