Turning 60! Local crime novels reviewed on Crime Watch
Back around the time I started this blog in 2009, a very smart books person asked in a magazine article why New Zealand hadn't produced very much in the way of crime fiction, Ngaio Marsh and Paul Thomas aside.
The fact is, we always had more crime fiction than was realised, it was just underappreciated. However, in recent years, things have certainly exploded, with some truly world-class local writers turning their hands to tales of mystery and mayhem. I'm pleased to say that Crime Watch has now published full reviews of 60 crime, mystery and thriller titles by New Zealanders, only 10% of which are pre-2005. There have also been some 'snippet' reviews (100-150wds) of other local crime novels, and there is much more to come.
Thanks to all the great reviewers who've shared their insights and given their time, including Margot Kinberg, Sarah Plant, Jeannie McLean, Karen Chisholm, John Ling, and Ngaire Atmore. I appreciate you all.
