Another (kinda) Kiwi debut this month

Another New Zealand-based writer is releasing their debut crime thriller in the UK this month (released in Australia and New Zealand in October).

Liam McIlvanney is Stuart Professor of Scottish Studies at the University of Otago, having recently immigrated to New Zealand. He returns to his Celtic roots with his debut, described as "a compelling thriller set amid the murky politics of Scotland and Northern Ireland".

I received my copy this morning, and it immediately jumped to the top of my TBR pile (it's always good to support local authors).

The book hasn't yet received any media coverage in New Zealand, but there is a reasonaly substantial review in The Scotsman: http://living.scotsman.com/books/Book-Review-All-the-Colours.5534818.jp

There is also an interview with McIlvanney in the latest instalment of Crime Squad's 'Fresh Blood' series: http://www.crimesquad.com/fresh-blood.asp

  1. Now, this is cool. I just received notice that he'll be reading at one of my favorite bookstores, No Alibis in Belfast. I'm not in Belfast, you understand, but I like to keep track of crime-fiction events there.
