There are some pretty cool crime writing events on the horizon in this part of the world, and today I've just been informed of another: the very first Death in July Festival, to be held in Ballarat, Australia in association with Sisters in Crime on 4-5 July 2014.
The festival is a celebration of Australian women's crime writing, and organisers say it will be "sure to get your blood pumping!". An array of topics, from the CSI effect to young adult writing and the launch of some new Australian crime novels, will be covered. Guest writers include Leigh Redhead, Angela Savage, Lindy Cameron, Honey Brown, and many others.
There are even a few blokes making an appearance onstage, as part of the "Dames vs Dicks - who does it better?" great crime writing debate event.
You can check out more information about this new festival here.
Modern day Kiwi crime fiction queen Vanda Symon attended a Sisters in Crime event in Melbourne a couple of years ago as an International Guest of Honour, and came back raving about the organisation - the passion of readers and writers alike, and its wonderful celebration of quality crime writing. I'm sure attendees of this year's festival will be equally thrilled if they attend.
